Summary of an article testing relationship between overhead press, back squat and split jerk performance.
Who
32 (20 males, 13 females) competitive (regional and national level) Olympic weightlifters (Spain).
Design
Experimental study.
Outcome measures
- overhead press 1RM (repetition maximum)
- back squat 1RM
- split jerk 1RM
Main results
- 1RM overhead press and 1RM back squat were very strongly correlated with 1RM split jerk performance for both, males and females.
- Split jerk performance can be predicted from:
- for males: 1RM split jerk performance = -0.4566 + 0.6558(back squat performance) + 0.2100(overhead press performance)
- for females: 1RM split jerk performance = -3.617 + 0.5814(back squat performance) + 0.4809(overhead press performance)
